Dream interpretation of hazrat ibn sirin (may allah have mercy on him) said that if someone sees themselves doing the work of a washerman even though they are not one, it is an indication of repentance, and they will be granted the opportunity of charity. this is because dirt on clothes symbolizes sorrow and worry in interpretation, and the washerman removes dirt, thus indicating a return to allah. hazrat ibrahim kirmani (may allah have mercy on him) said that if one sees the cloth tearing while washing, it signifies that they will break their repentance. and if they see themselves mending the torn cloth, it is a sign that they will repent again. if the cloth becomes white after washing, it means they will find deliverance and salvation through repentance, and if they see that the cloth has been washed but hasn't become white, then it indicates remaining in sin continuously. hazrat jafar sadiq (may allah have mercy on him) said that in dreams, a washerman is someone who removes sorrow and grief from people's hearts. this is why the interpreters have stated that if someone dreams of washing cloth, it indicates that they will be relieved from sorrow and grief and will repent for their sins, especially if they see the cloth becoming white and without stains. hazrat jabir maghribi (may allah have mercy on him) said that the washerman in a dream is a person whose hands lead to charity and good deeds, both serving as atonements for sins.
